I am helping a friend with his lap top (Acer aspire 5315-2153). I am putting in a new hard drive but hit a road block. The computer currently has Windows Vista Basic installed. The problem is, he lost the disks that came with the computer, and I do not have any spare vista basic disks. Is there any way to get the OS on to the new hard drive? Will the Vista basic key work with my Home premium copy? (my guess is no)

They are SATA drives, if that is important.

No, you need to get the DVD(s) from Acer and to a system recover using them.
