Please help if anyone knows how to answer this. My Husband bought Transformers PC game. When he tries to download it, message comes on saying " requires pixel shader v1.1". I know that this probably has something to do with graphics card, however, he went to best buy and they talked him into a Nvidia geforce 8500 GT. (It was on clearance) This does not even fit into our computer. We have Win XP / SP 2. Pentium processor. Here is what the system requirment are:

    3D hardware accelerator card required:

    - 100% DirectX® 9.0c-compliant 64MB video card and drivers*

    - English version of Microsoft® Windows® XP/Vista

    - Pentium® 4 2.0GHz or Athlon® 2.0GHz or higher processor

    - 256MB of RAM (1GB for Windows® Vista)

    - 4 GB of uncompressed hard disk space (plus 300 MB for the Windows® swap file and 1MB free for saved games)

    - A 100% Windows XP/Vista-compatible computer system including:

    - DirectX 9.0c (Included)

    - 100% DirectX 9.0c-compliant true 16-bit sound card and drivers

    - 100% Windows XP/Vista -compatible mouse, keyboard and drivers

    - 100% Windows XP/Vista -compatible quad speed DVD-ROM drive (600 K/sec sustained transfer rate)

    * Supported Chipsets for Windows XP/Vista:

    - All NVIDIA® GeForce® 4 Ti 4200 64MB and better chipsets

    - All ATI® Radeon® 8500 64MB and better chipsets

    - 100% Windows XP/Vista-compatible gamepad (optional) (Game controller with 10 or more buttons and dual analog sticks required

I hate to sound like a complete idiot but I have no idea on how to find out if we have all this on our computer...namely quad speed dvd????? We have a Nvidia GE Force 4MX 440w/AGP8x...DirextX 9.0C

Any ideas on what the problem is??? Thanks in advance for any help!

    Please post your DXdiag.

Have you try update the video drivers?

That should be require in order to fix the shader model, You video card is pretty old and uses shader 1.0

    Go to www.srtest.com

Of course, the 8500 GT will not fit because your using an AGP slot. The 8500 GT requires PCI-x Slot.

ok..well at the moment your graphics hardware is not up to playing the game, as you have already figured out...what you needed to have done is not to buy a graphics card from a sales person..such as best buy or pc world:) make your own mind up...as gamerbyron says, the slot in your computer is what is called AGP 8, this is an older card slot, but there are a few decent cards that use that interface...depending on your budget, ask the dealer for either

lowest price (but still very very good) NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT
    moderate NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS
a little more but better for higher resolutions NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS

i would go for the 7800gs out of the list, but again the choice is yours to make on your budget as all these cards will play the transformers game...
