Hi I have windows xp home and have norton systemworks on it. Well after a full scan it came up with some viruses and a trojan horse that it couldn't get rid of. Can anyone help me get rid of these? The trojan horse is HTTPDownloader.ocx. I will put a report from hijack this. Thanks Tim

    Hi misterx

    Welcome to TSG! :)

I am pasting your log in the thread for you. It is much easier to analyze that way.

I'll post my recommendations after I look through the log.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O16 - DPF: {B94B4225-E02E-4D3F-BADB-026F1E2F3AD7} - file://C:\WINDOWS\SexDownloader.cab

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

    C:\WINDOWS\SexDownloader.cab
    HTTPDownloader.ocx

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

Hi flrman1, I did everything you said down to empty the recycle bin. I tried to empty the recycle bin and it is norton protected and cant empty? I seen the files in there but it would only let you restore them. I didn't want to turn off system restore and create a new restore point until I found out if the scan was clean. So I went out of safe mode and ran the trend micro scan and it was good so I ran ad-aware, microsoft antivirus quick scans and ran a full scan from Norton and the Norton scan said I still had the HTTPDownloader.ocx trojan horse. Did I do something wrong? I am puting the new hijack this report in here. Do I have to put check marks back in the show hidden files boxes that I unchecked before in folder options? Thanks Tim

There was a temp file but it didn't look like the other one. I didn't know if it was the one so i deleted it. But the name wasn't HTTPDownloader.ocx. The search never found a file named HTTPDownloader.ocx

Click Here and download the the new version of Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following line then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle. It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click yes and let it reboot.

    C:\WINDOWS\SexDownloader.cab

After it restarts, Empty the Recycle Bin.

Also right click the recycle bin and click "Emty Norton Protected files and in the next widow click "Purge All"

Hi flarman1, I downloaded copylock and did what you said. I clicked add went to C: then to Windows and didn't see SexDownloader.ocx.
Would it be some where else?

I think Norton may have deleted it od quarantined it. Run another scan with Norton and see if it still finds it.
