Hi I just found your site; I am so glad it is here. Oh I just remembered I am using Firefox not IE.

I did something stupid and need help. First I want to thank you for your help. I got this warning and now I have this big stop sign with an X in on my tray and keep getting this same message posted below.

    "Security Warning!

Trojan.W32.Looksky detected on your machine. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and Active-X objects. The worm has its own SMTP engine which means it gathers e-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data.
This process should be removed from your system.

    Type: Virus
System Affected: Windows 2000, NT, ME, XP, Vista
    Security risk (0-5): 5
Recommendations: Click Yes to remove it from your PC immediately.

    [Yes] [No]"

I hope you can help me. Thank you for taking your precious time in assisting others. :)

    Welcome to TSG :)

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

    =============================

    Please download HJTInstaller.exee Here
Let it Place Hijackthis in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijackthis
Let it create a Desktop Icon
    Open Hijackthis.exe
Click on Do a System Scan and Save log file
    Don't Fix any Items!!!
Just copy and paste the contents of the log file to your reply.

    Still infected.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe
    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.exe

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method so Windows will start with minimal drivers and running processes. To do this restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". See How to Boot in "SAFE MODE" tutorial if needed.
    • Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe.
    • Select 2 and hit Enter to delete the infected files

    • You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
    • The tool will check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace Infected file? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
    • A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
    • In your next reply, please include a fresh Hijackthis log and rapport log.

    What does this mean?

Select 2 and hit Enter to delete the infected files.

Do you mean hit the number 2 on my keyboard and hit enter at the same time or a 2 that will show up on the screen?

Sorry but I did put down I was computer illiterate. I had to hunt and hunt for the SDFix folder because you didn't tell me where to find it.

I do want to thank you again for your help.

You are confused. You where supposed to download Smitfraudfix.exe!!!!

When you boot into SafeMode just double-click on smitfraudfix.exe

    then select option 2.

If you have anymore questions just ask. You may feel more comfortable printing out the instructions.

Okay I did that but I didn't know what I was suppose to click on. Could give me a file name or something? I have a whole list of things in the folder and none of them say option 2. :(

I am sorry to be so much trouble, I really don't know what I am doing here.

I don't have an option to download to my desktop only to save the file. So while in safe mode I go into "My Computer" and have to open the file from there. I there any way I can get this SmitfraudFix.exe to my desktop?

Sorry to be so much trouble. Thank you for being so patient with me and for your help. :)

    yes good job!!! (y)

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
    • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
    • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
    • Click the Scanning Control tab.
    • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
      • Close browsers before scanning.
      • Scan for tracking cookies.
      • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
    • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
    • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
    • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
      • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
      • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
      • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
      • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
    • Click Close to exit the program.
