I downloaded a software from Xilisoft. (Xilisoft Video Converter) I didn't install the software yet. I scanned it online with virustotal. Its detection ratio was 1/42. Only 1 of 42 virus scanners detected a "Trojan/Win32.Generic.gen" from the installer. Does that mean the installer has a virus? Or it's just a 'false-positive' or whatever they call it?
I'd say it's pretty clean. I've just scanned it myself with VirusTotal and the detection ratio was 1/39 (Dr.Web is the only one detecting something, which is probably a false positive). Make sure your antivirus is running before downloading the program. Once downloaded, scan the installer again with your own antivirus before installing.

If you still don't trust - make it run under the sandboxies ,and see what is the report. But a trojan could be a crack or patch version downloaded and ,learn how to control the digital signature for a software.
