This computer had win98 SE, it kept dying, the screen would go black, but the computer was still running. Had to reboot several times before it would load windows again. It seemed it would do that when the computer was running a while. I checked the processor fan and it is working. I finally decided to reformat and load XP Exeutive. It loaded fine, but when I go to do windows updates, it freezes and gave me errors # OX8024402C and OX80072EE2. Then it will just die again, Screen goes black, nothing there, but you can hear the computer box still running. I don't know what else to check. I thought if I can get the windows updates it might fix whatever problem it had, but have not been able to do that. Can anybody help? Thanks:(

Thanks for your reply, I found out why the computer kept shutting off, screen going black but the box still running. I needed a new power source. It evidently was on it's last leg. Trying another one and has not shut down anymore. However, I am having problems getting connected to the internet, so unsure if your instructions helped yet or not. I am connected to my ISP (dialup) but it won't connect to the internet. I just loaded XP professional , I am trying to do the windows updates before I load any prgrams. I have checked the internet connection settings, but don't know what I am missing. Any ideas?
