    Hi-

I purchased my Dell laptop 3 years ago and it worked fine until 6 months ago when it stopped recognizing cd's. It plays DVD's perfectly, but it won't play or burn cd's. My operating system is Windows XP and I havn't downloaded any new software recently. If you have any suggestions I would be very appreciative!:)

There's two lasers, one for dvd and one for cd's. Sometimes one goes bad. You could try blasting the rom with compressed air to see if it's got dust in there.
