    hi
i know that this question will sound just like all the others but i am having trouble playing the dvd's that were burnt with my dvd player (which is connected to the TV) and then watching them on my laptop.
    ##do i need new codecs????##

my laptop is a cd burner and plays but not burns dvd's. it is a acer aspire 3500

    any help would be great...

    cheers

Did you finalize the disc while it is in the DVD burner/player? If not, it'll be in the settings somewhere and you need to do that before it will play on any other DVD playback device.

Its possible you need a Mpeg-2 codec for the laptop too but only if it won't play any DVDs at all, in which case I would recommend VLC media player be employed as your DVD player and see if it performs to your liking.
