HELP! & Not the Beatles....another IT guy added a trusted site Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites with a weird symbol before it. It does not have https:// it's like *. What it is?

What is the domain of the site? The "*" just means any prefix for a URL on that site would be trusted. I don't like adding entries there as it basically gives them permission to bypass security measures on your computer. This is sometimes done for troubleshooting purposes but I wouldn't leave it that way.

As cookiegal said, this is for website prefixes. To go deeper, please see examples below:

An entry as follows:
*.google.com

This will allow all of the following:
calendar.google.com
mail.google.com
maps.google.com
