trying to install wxp, but f2,f8, etc buttons dont work

my buddy was trying to isntall windows xp, but when he got to the part where it asks something like press f8 to install xp, press esc of f3 to quit. he presses f8 but nothing happens. does anyone have a solution to this?

Have your buddy go into his BIOS settings and set his CDROM/DVDROM as his first boot device. If he has a bootable CD version of XP, it should autorun when he restarts his machine.

So are you saying the install starts but when you press F8 to accept the license agreement, it stops the install.

Have you tried a different keyboard. If you are using a USB keyboard try and obtain a PS/2 keyboard.
