First off, I am running a Windows XP OS. Next, my computer is infected with Spyware that hijacks my browser and changes it to about:blank everytime I open IE. The other thing I noticed is that occasioanally my internet security settings will automatically get changed to the lowest setting. I have downloaded and ran Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot, Adware Away, and STOPzilla. Adware Away seems to recognize the spyware, but can't entirely remove it. I didn't send my HJT log right now because I am not sure if and how you want it sent.

STOPzilla recognized these threats when I ran it,

total threat elements: 139 total threats 3
Desktophijacker.B (Spyware,Adware,Virus) 10 elements
CoolWebSearch.HomeSearch (Virus) 97 elements
Threat ID: 1283 32 elements

I couldn't remove any of these because I'm using the trial version.

I am trying to understand as much as I can about Spyware with the time I have, I am just looking for some advice... and any help I can get. Thanks!!

Thanks, for the help, but I'm more concerned with removing the spyware from my computer. I want to get rid of the main problem, and not just avoid it. I don't want to have to reinstall my operating system. I guess I'm looking for other alternatives.

StartPage Guard is not going to fix CoolWebSearch.

Run HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a log file
Your HijackThis log will open in Notepad. Post the contents of the log here

Before you start with the HJT log, you should run CWShredder and it cleans out the spyware. Then you can post the HJT log for a pro! :D

Instead of hunting down all the files, CWS does all the work for you, therefore reducing stress and saving time! :D

CWS leaves 20+ files and over 20 registry keys, we will need to see a HijackThis log and use CWShredder.
