    Hi,

Trying to set up an ethernet card on a WIN95A system.
Having trouble getting the card to get any connection,
with any Wan or other Lan PCs.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The Win95A settings seem a little bit different in places.
And i'm not that good at it anyway.

    John :)

Have you installed the drivers successfully?

    Start, Run, devmgmt.msc

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

    Start, Run, WINIPCFG

Post a screen shot of the screen here after clicking on the More Details button.

    Hi JohnWill,

I think i have installed the driver correctly.
I will try to run, devmgmt.msc
I will have a look under 'Network Adapters'
to tell you all of the devices listed.

Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display
with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Yes, ive been there already. there is a conflict with something but i
dont remember its name. That something has a setting which cannot be
altered. The adapter card IRQ setting however could be altered. I
altered it to a setting with no conflicts, but then i had to alter it
back because Win refused to run like that, but it will run with the card
disabled on a conflicting setting. Which is not much use.

I will also run, WINIPCFG with 'More Details'

although i won't be posting a screen shot, as i have not been able
to get that system on-line yet, but i may be able to copy it somehow
    in order to post it.

This will take me a little while as i will have to swap some stuff over
in order to run the other machine.

Thanks, and i will be back soon, John :)

Try changing the PCI location of the NIC in that machine. Also, you might try resetting the BIOS to factory defaults and let it discover the hardware again. Finally, W95 is not a PnP O/S, so you should change that in the BIOS as well.

    Hi,

    DRIVER

That was more trouble than enough.
I have run in the driver for a Realtek RTL8139 using the floppy
that came in the box with it. I have not physically checked
that the card in the PC is the one i think it is.
That should be my next check.

    DEVMGMT.MSC

    Not recognised.

    DEVICES LISTED UNDER NETWORK ADAPTERS.

    Only one, Realtek RTL8139.
But i put that entry there.

    FLAGGED DEVICES

    as per picture.

    WINIPCFG

    not recognised.

Copied pics over in .bmp using a floppy. Then transposed into .jpg on the
    other machine. Very troublesome procedure.

Still having no luck in getting this running.

    John :)

What do you see when you expand "other devices"?

You're missing a whole host of drivers, probably the chipset drivers for the motherboard to start. Note that your Ethernet adapter is also there, which is why it doesn't work.

I have no idea if you can even find W95 drivers for most devices any more.

Try www.driverguide.com and do a search. You'll need to register, but it's free.
