As I was installing PC-cillin it said it would remove Norton Antivirus 2002 for me. When I tried to finsh the install it said Norton was still present. I can find it on my computer but there is no uninstall option. When I go to Add/Remove Programs it isn't listed. Symantec no longer supports 2002 and said they couldn't help me. My subscription runs out today for Norton updates and I can't install PC-Cillin.

I used system restore and went back to before I started installing PC-cillin. My version of Norton Antivirus came with SystemWorks 2002. I used the uninstall command for system works, this time it removed the antivirus and some of the SystemWorks programs but not all of them. I was able to install PC-cillin but there is no uninstall command for the rest of the Norton Utilities that still remain. When I want to remove these programs what should I do?

Thanx,

You can disable them in msconfig and/or the entries can be cleaned with HiJackThis

Back in the days when I allowed Symantec products on my computer, I had a similar problem.

Downloaded all the "tools" offered by Symantec for cleaning up the mess they leave after using their uninstall programs but even those did not do the job.

Next, tried registry cleaners and they found and removed more.

Next step. I manually removed several hundred registry entires containing either "Norton" or "Systemworks".

Last stop. Swore to never allow their junk on my computer and since then have not had any problems.

There are better registry cleaners available now than there were then so they may reduce or even eliminate the things I had to remove manually.

Free ones include Easycleaner by ToniArts which is a good one and RegSeeker is very good and very agressive(only remove the ones in green fonts), sometimes OK to remove those in yellow fonts or red fonts but read carefully before you do).

Commercial ones that I use include SystemSuite by VCOM and System Mechanic by IOLO. Never had any problems removing anything they recommend and both can be found from time to time with good rebates.

There are probably many more that I am not aware of but you are probably in for an ordeal trying to get Norton off your computer.
