I plug mine in the little green light turns on and the fans run at higher speed for a second usually for about 3 seconds and then slow down but then then one time the fans just kept running at that high speed and I can not get anything to show up on the desktop screen

Have you tried a different monitor?

If you don't have one, ask a friend to bring his/her monitor to your house to try on your desktop computer.

We have no idea which of the three questions we asked you answered as yes.
    1. What did you plug in?
    2. A USB external drive?
    3. Have you tried a different monitor?

That doesn't necessarily mean it is the computer.
    1. Some computers refuse to boot if an external USB drive is attached. (I happen to own one. It is only one hard drive out of the 7 portable ones I own and it only happens to one of the 4 Windows 7 computers in the house).

    2. If nothing ever shows up on the screen, the graphics chip or graphics card might have a problem. You haven't given us any information about your computer (brand, and exact model and version of Windows) so it is hard to help solve a problem since we haven't a clue what hardware is in your computer.

This might be a hardware problem so it probably belongs here
