help computer indicates it has sound...but I do not hear a thing. Followed the help trouble shooting and the sound says it is there but we still do not hear anything. The audio and video codecs show being disabled but HOW do I enable them? I have windows 98 2nd edition.

Hiya and welcome

Lets try some things first.

Rightclick on the volume icon near the clock and choose Open Volume Controls. Options | Properties. Tick all the boxes and OK.
Are any of the controls muted, or lowered? If so, unmute or increase the control.

Now, lets look at the other's. Go to Control Panel | System. Device Manager. Under Display will be your video card. What is it?
Under Audio will be your sound card. Again, what is it?
Also, are there any yellow !'s in there?

Regards

eddie
