I am trying to use my new 42 inch plasma screen tv as a monitor for my laptop. The laptop is a Xplorer X6-9200 Gaming Notebook i bought from CyberpowerPC, 4gb ram, 1tb HD, windows 7, fully up to date, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 2GB. The tv is a panasonic viera TC-p4232c. I am using a VGA to red green blue cable, and plugging it into the component red greed blue of the tv. when plugged in and with laptop switched to duplicate screen, the tv says that nothing is plugged in. Please help me get this to work.

If you are only using three video lines (Red, Green, and Blue) into the TV, then the TV is probably expecting composite sync being included on the green signal line. Sync on green is not standard for the VGA output of most computers. You can check the owner's manual for the computer to see if it by some chance mentions that sync on green is supported and how to enable it.

If you get sync on green working, you would need to then make sure the video timing (resolution and refresh rate) can be set to a mode supported by the TV.
