Appreciate some assistance.

Can anyone recommend tryed and true tweaks that will allow a browser (IE) to load faster, etc.?

Any gooood website to take a look at? Have reviewed some, but appreciate some opinions.

Not interested in software. Prefer to work on the issue.

Your browser should load normally.
And when it does, you can't make it go faster by 'tweaking' it.

What exactly is the problem? Does it start up slowly, but afterwards pages load normally?
Or is it slow all over?

You could run IE Repair, if you have that option. It will replace missing IE files and checks for unregistered dlls: Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool

And here's a site that may be of interest: How to Improve Browsing Performance in Internet Explorer

It may also be due to programs starting up automatically as Windows loads.

Try this:

Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Now click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Paste the contents in your post.

Good luck,

Hi,

Let's get all the unneccessary stuff out of the way:

Go to Start/run, and type msconfig.
On the Startup tab, uncheck EVERYTHING, EXCEPT for the following items

Scanner Detector (optional)
MSMSGS (optional)
ECHK Registry
ScanRegistry
SystemTray Registry (Machine Run) SysTray.Exe
LoadPowerProfile
Easykey Registry (optional)
3dfx Tools Registry
SoundFusion Registry (optional)
EXSHOW95.EXE Mouse, your choice
MSWheel Registry your choice
PCCIOMON.EXE Registry
pop3trap.exe Registry
WebTrap.exe Registry
NAV Agent Registry
Adaptec DirectCD
LoadPowerProfile Registry
RegisterDropHandler
PCCIOMON.EXE
ScriptBlocking

Click OK, close Msconfig, and reboot (important!)

The items marked 'optional' aren't neccessary for Windows to run either, and you may experiment later by unchecking them as well.

Now go to Software add/remove and remove New(dot)net application and Webhancer Agent.

Reboot AGAIN.

Download and install Ad-Aware . This is a program which scans your system for spyware.

After having downloaded AAW, also download the latest Signature file (Reflist.sig) : http://www.lavasoftusa.net/aaw/binary/reflist.zip
Unpack it to the Lavasoft Ad-Aware folder in Program Files, and have it overwrite the one that's there.

Then have your drives and registry scanned for spyware, check all found files and reg keys, click continue, and have them removed.
Reboot one last time.

Your computer will thank you for this, and you'll be amazed about how much more smoothly your system will run.

Something else: you appear to have Norton and PCcillin running simultaneously, and this is not advisable.
It may create conflicts, and will result in letting malware pass through eventually.

Decide which one you'd like to keep, and ditch the other one.

Good luck,

Tony,

Thank you for your help.

Sure looks as if this machine is overloaded with all sorts of "stuff".

Will follow your suggestions after reading them thouroughly and understanding what in the heck I'm doing.

Would appreciate some clarification, though. Went to CP>Add/Remove and looked for New(dot)Net, and Webhancer Agent. Couldn't find whatever they are. Am I looking in the right place?

:)
Also, SavvyLady, did not mean to overlook your assistance.

Thank you for the website.

Ran a couple of the tests from PCPitStop, and will review the results to figure out which end is up.

Thanks again.

:)
:)
