I recently had Virgin Media 100mb broadband installed and was unhappy to be getting speeds of 7-15kbs :(

I was ready to contact them to see why my connection was so slow but my cousin came with his laptop yesterday, logged into my network and downloaded a 349mb file getting speeds of up to 1.5mb/s????

I know now it must be something to do with my laptop but don't know what. I have uninstalled my wireless network adaptor and installed it again but still getting slow speeds.

    Can anyone help?

What download do you get with Speedtest.net with an ethernet connection to the router? With a connection directly to the modem if you have separate units?

I didn't get an ethernet wire when the router was installed but do believe it's a better connection when wired. The problem is, my router is quite an awkward place with not much give in the wire linked to the cable box so can't really connect my laptop this way anyway:(

At least tell us what you get with Speedtest.net with a wireless connection.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Make sure you have the latest correct wireless driver (from the laptop manufacturer's site if an integrated adapter).

    Try channel 2.

Try with encryption disabled. If that helps try WPA-PSK encryption.
