    Hello,

This is my first posting, and I hope someone can help me with this. I have an earthlink DSL connection which works great most of the time, but when it doesn't it's a nightmare.

On 9/8 and 9/9, I was unable to access a number of websites that I had easily accessed just last week. That problem went away and the next day, outlook was unable to download my email due to a "timeout error". After the timeout error occurred, my entire system was slowed down substantially. I had six word files open and it took me about 20 minutes to close them. After all that, when I tried to shutdown, I got a fatal exception error and the system hanged. I turned it off and rebooted, then tried accessing email via earthlink webmail, typed in my username and password, hit submit and the page blinked and I was back at the login screen, which no longer had my username information on it. There was no error message. I tried this several times over a period of several hours, thinking that earthlink was just having system problems, but no change. I called earthlink, was told it was my browser, erased the cache, cookies and temp internet files per their instructions, reset my web settings. No change. I haven't had access to email for three days now and it is driving me nuts.

I downloaded a virus update and re-scanned with Norton, ran spybot and deleted about 5 new nasty files.

I downloaded IE 6 (again, it was the same version I already had)

    Still no change.

I don't know what to do at this point, and am hoping someone has an idea what the problem could be.

Don't know it it applies to this problem, but I downloaded hijackthis and here is the log:

You should be using BOTH spybot AND adaware, update both and reboot inbetween.

Oh and WELCOME to the forum ;)

    Thanks!

I downloaded and ran adaware after checking for new updates and got rid of a bunch of data mining files. Oh man--I thought I was being so careful!

I'm still unable to access e-mail, either through Outlook or earthlink's webmail. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

    Mollie
