    Hi

    Im new to linux.

I have removed windows vista completely and installed ubuntu.

I want to install windows XP as my second OS on my machine.

Im unable to boot the winXP cd during startup. I have checked the boot options and boot order as well.

I even couldnt boot from Ubuntu CD now.

Can anyone please tell me a suggestion coz i tried to google but found no solution.

You have the optical drive first in the boot order, right? And, what happens? It seems to access the optical drive but doesn't find a bootable disk, or it just goes directly to the hard drive completely ignoring the optical?

When booting most bios's during startup will display a message along the lines "Press F11 for Boot Device." Look for this to manually choose the boot device (Optical CD/DVD Drive).

If you can't find it, try as TerryNet suggested, check your boot order. Enter your BIOS setup and there should be a boot order list. Make sure your CD/DVD drive is listed before your hard drive, then your PC will check the CD/DVD drive for booting before the hard drive every time you start.

The most common key to get the "select boot device" menu, are:
    - ESC
    - F11
    - F12

Sounding like a problem with the optical drive. See if one or more of those CDs boot on another computer.

Does the DVD drive read discs when you're in Ubuntu? Or is the problem just when booting from a disc?
