Can you provide the 7 character service tag from the bottom of that laptop?

What's the make and model of your router?

    Who's your ISP?

Do other devices gave trouble connecting wirelessly?

The Dell support site shows 2 "CPX" Latitude models:

    Dell Latitude CPx H

    Dell Latitude CPx J

Both models are 14 - 15 years old and don't appear to have built-in wireless.

Indeed...most likely windows xp or earlier was the highest OS they were supported with. If you are using an external adapter, unless it was purchased years ago you probably don't have windows drivers available for your OS.

Are you using an external USB adapter? Or the internal OEM WiFi card?

There's an awful lot of wireless devices that came in that computer.

Perhaps Frank will be able to narrow down to the one you need.

Are you able to check device manager to see which exact card you have?

You have this particular Dell Latitude C610 laptop.

It was purchased in January 2002 in the U.S.A..

Since it's more than 10 years old, Dell has removed some of its support site options and made it more difficult for us to confirm the identity of the devices in it.

As Andrew already said, it lists several wireless and ethernet devices for it, so we need to confirm which ones yours has.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.

Click the + in the Network Adapters heading.

What's the exact description of the devices listed there?

Are there any devices in the Device Manager that have a yellow ? or yellow ! or red X next to them?

If there is, advise us what their exact names are.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Is it running Windows XP Home Edition or Professional or Media Center Edition?

Is the Service Pack 3(SP3) upgrade installed?

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Double-click both of these entries to open its properties window.
In the "General" tab, does it show each device as working properly?
Click the "Driver" tab for both of these devices.
What is the exact driver version and driver date?

Here is the download link for the full 316 MB-size SP3 upgrade.
Download and save it, then ccopy it to a USB thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R.
Insert that media in that laptop so you can gain access to the SP3 upgrade.
Double-click it to start the upgrade process.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Why is that laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP2?
The SP3 upgrade was released in May 2008.
Without the SP3 upgrade installed, certain devices and programs won't install or work.
