    Hi,

I have windows 2000 Professional edition. On my external hard drive, I have about 20 gb assigned to "unknowns", as indicated by the "WINDIRSTAT" program. I tried looking at hidden files etc. but no luck. The total capacity of the hard drive is 150 GB. This just happened a couple of days back. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I defragmented, but of no use.

    Thanks in advance!

Troubleshoot what? I guess I don't see the problem. If Windirstat can't identify files, stop using it.

You can see how your space is used with

    Disk Pie or TreeSize

Thanks for the response. I used Tree Size to find out and that shows me I have about 20 GB available in my hard drive. But when I am looking at Windows explorer, I don't see anything available(I should have 20 GB available as all my file size totals up correctly)

And when I use Winddistat, I can see Unkown file of 20 GB.

The basic question remains how do I find this 20 GB and hopefully delete it??This issue just happened a couple of days back.

    Thanks in advance!

Do you have System Restore enabled on that drive? It may be that the System Information folder is not being counted by some since it is inaccessible,

I am on Windows 2000 Professional edition and to the best of my knowledge there is no System Restore Option available. If there is, I am not aware of the settings. Tree Size did display 2 GB file in the System Information folder.
