Able to open folders. But unable to open files in the folders. Double click on a file and a matching icon appears w/a $~file name under it.

    Lorraine,

Can you open files that are not associated with MS Word?
How are you trying to open the files, by double-clicking in Explorer/My Computer, or using File, Open in Word?

    Roger,
Thanks for responding so quickly. I solved the problem yesterday. I just needed to close some files I had minimized. I'll try to be more careful.
