Unless it's a typo there should not be a 'dot' after com in your link.

It's not that. I have years used the same links but all of sudden I have to copy it and paste it on Google.

Seems to me the link is dead. When I click on what you posted I get "UT001000: Connection closed."
But when I type just "wellsfargo.com" in my browser's address bar it goes to the home/log in page:

    https://www.wellsfargo.com/

I know that looks to be almost the same as you posted (without the dot after com as Allan mentioned), but it works for me with Firefox, also tried it in Chrome.
If it works for you, just need to update the link in the spreadsheet...
but I'm using Windows 7, Vista might be a different animal, but my posted link works, while your posted one doesn't...for me anyway.
Give it a try, let us know.

Sorry but the DOT is not the issue, it was a typo. The link is and always has been https://www.wellsfargo.com/ I opened a new excel page, posted this link and still got the same message: "Unable to open https://www.wellsfargo.com/Cannot connect the Internet server or proxy server."

first off, what spreadsheet, and secondly, why are you using a spreadsheet to access wells fargo? And finally, why are you pasting it in google as opposed to the url bar?

Is this really the case? No anti-virus software running on this machine?

This could also be a firewall issue. Are you running a third party firewall or something else that controls what programs can access the Internet through the firewall?

No anti-virus software on my computer? I was not aware of this so I will get that now. This problem is causing so much ado that I will simply go directly to the the Google url. The only firewall is the one that came with Vista-txs

Weird thing here, is in that very post quoted above, the first link takes me directly to Wells Fargo, but the second one does not - second results (again) as "UT001000: Connection closed"
Seem to be spelled the same, so confused here.

But no anti-virus or malware program...? You need them!
Also be sure your Windows has the updates, and that includes MS Office updates!

Txs. Just got avast and even paid $19.95 annual fee.

If memory serves me I had the same problem years ago and techguys solved it by changing or adding Internet Explorer but I have no record of this.

You still haven't answered my questions in post 10; I'm wondering if Excel is causing the issue.
