Windows XP SP3 on a PC
Yesterday I removed AVG Free using Revo Uninstaller but I had to do a System Restore today and when I used my add/delete programs, even though it shows the AVG as there when I click remove nothing happens.
When I click the uninstall button in my Start list nothing happens.
I've had Revo working for about 30 minutes and it is also unable to get the uninstaller to work.

So - did I remove it or not? I want to know for certain because I am now using Avast and I don't want both of them working.

Is there a way to de-activate AVG if I'm unable to remove it?

    Thanks!

That did not work! When it re-started it had that message that it wasn't letting my PC start so I had to use System Restore to get it to re-start.
    What else is there?

In Safe Mode. And today the same thing happened - I got the same thing and the only way that I was able to get online was to use System Restore.

If you need to keep using System Restore for that computer to work, it has some serious issues.

Since it's unknown to us what you install and use in that computer and how you use it, a hard drive format and "clean" reinstall of Windows XP SP3 and getting a fresh start may be your best option.

Well if it started in safe mode then saying that it wouldn't start was incorrect.

Yes - I've got an appointment for someone to check it out. I don't think that I'd be able to do it properly.
Is there a way for me to provide you a scan of everything that is on the PC? This all began when I wanted to uninstall AVG.

You are right - I didn't phrase that accurately.

I had the same problem with AVG and used Revo muninstaller to remove it. I still get messages to say my free edition of AVG has expired and I need to pay for it to continue to protect my PC but I did remove it.

I did use Revo and the uninstaller that was mentioned in this post but it still is in my add/delete programs even though the program isn't there.

Try this from Microsoft - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

If this solution doesn't work for you.. a clean installed of XP SP3 is the only option left.

    Gotta love technology!
