I have a home network using cable modem service through a netgear wireless router.

Home computer is connected to the router via an ethernet cable and notebook computer connects via the router.

Both machines have good internet connectivity.

Home can read or write files to notebook.

Notebook cannot see shared folder or printer on home machine. NB cannot even ping home machin  e.

Since you are both getting out the Internet, I am going to assume that the IP information is correct for your network. Also, since the file sharing works one way and you can browse, I am going to assume that you already have the same workgroup name. But you do need to be able to ping.

As a test you might want to disable XP's built in firewall and uninstall any 3rd party firewall on the computer you can't connect to.

Then make sure you can ping by both IP and Name.
