I have been recently attempting to "rescue" a desktop machine that was used by my daughter before she entered college. Suffice it to say, her internet usage habits were unwise and unsafe. After loading and trying to run a scan with AdAware personal SE, the scan would proceed for approximately 10 secs. then the machine reboots itself. Any ideas as to why. I am also beginning my pursuit of WinAntiVirusPro 2006 and this forum has been a wealth of information.

Hi, Try doing the Ad-Aware scan while in Safe Mode...

Be sure to check for Updates for your AdAware program beforehand.

For XP: Shut down any programs you have open, like Internet Explorer or other apps....

You will not have Internet while working in Safe Mode!

    * Restart your computer into safe mode now.To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu"
Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Then start a Full Scan. Let us know if that will work or not.
