I have a HP desktop with windows vista and a wireless internet adapter. We have one other computer in our house which has the router. I have successfully installed the driver and it recognizes our household network. The thing is, I cannot successfully connect to it. It shows the signal is excellent but the network is still showing that it is unidentified. I am pretty sure that I know the WEP( i have entered it but nothing is really happening)im still not sure what to do or if if I have the right settings. I am not an expert at computers, so I would appreciate if someone could help me.

    Can you connect via ethernet?

Disable encryption and try to connect that way. If unsuccessful, try to connect both ethernet and wireless and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Does the ethernet LED light when you connect the cable? Are you using a known good cable and known good LAN port on the router?

Please change the TCP/IP Properties for the ethernet to a dynamic connection until we get things working.

On Vista, from my imperfect memory ...
From the Network and Sharing Center click on Manage Network Connections on the left.

Right click on the ethernet (Local Area Connection) connection - Properties - Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) - Properties - select 'obtain IP auto' and 'obtain DNS auto' and "OK" your way back out.

Please confirm that you have disabled encryption and checked the cable and then show another ipconfig /all
