Hello, Last week I installed an update entitled KB951978. Since then, I'm unable to shut down my computer - I get an error message asking me to end "sprtcmd.exe". I hit "end now", and usually it shuts down OK.

Sometimes, it doesn't, and, when I turn on my computer, I get a Runtime error. The computer won't run any application and I have to shut it off and reboot... then it is fine.

I'm scared to uninstall the update - is it safe to do that? Everything was perfectly fine until then.

    Thanks!

I would uninstall it and see what happens. I don't think it's security related if that's what you're worried about.

I started to uninstall it and the first screen in the wizard reads "uninstalling this may disable many functions on your computer". That's when I stopped. Since my computer was fine before the update, I'm hoping it will be fine afterwards. Thoughts?

When you uninstall it, the files it installed will revert to their previous state. It should be fine. You can always re-install it, if the problem isn't solved.
