    Hey there.

I've been having problems uninstalling AVG Anti-Virus for quite some time now and couldn't find a solution. So I'm hoping you guys can help me in any way possible.

Everytime I try to uninstall this message appears:

    What does this mean?

I really don't know why you would want to uninstall AVG (I wouldn't be without it)but if you really want to...

Have you tried disabling the program in it's own settings first? If that doesn't work try from the admin account or safemode.

I don't really want to get rid of it. I want to uninstall and then reinstall it but when I try to install a new copy I get the same message as well.

I already have it disabled and I tried Safe Mode, though I may not have gone about uninstalling it in Safe Mode correctly I think.

Is AVG still listed in add/remove?Also,have you tried killing it's services in the Task Manager first?

Another dumb question but...have you tried using it's own uninstaller?

    Or:

    Log on as Administrator

Yup. Got the same message when I used its own uninstaller as well.

Oh and I use the Administrator account.

Just a stab in the dark but can you open the AVG program folder and take a screenshot of it to post here?

Well I've never heard of this before and google is no help either,so take a deep breath, grab a couple of stiff drinks and try this.Very drastic, radical surgery!!!

First:Start/Search , search for AVG.Make sure to use advanced search options.

Delete everything(I know,I know you can't do that!!!)Do it anyway!
(May have to do from safemode)

    Now:Start/Run Type: regedit ok

Back up registry!!!(In case we screw this up TOTALLY)

Click on view and select "Find" type: AVG
    Whatever is found delete it!

Click on view and select "Find Next"
    Whatever is found delete it!

Do the above untill you see a popup box telling you "Finished searching through the registry."

This should kill anything to do with AVG but just in case do this:
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

The Add/Remove Programs list is built from the keys listed beneath the Uninstall folder.

Locate the key for the program that has been uninstalled, right click the key and click Delete.

Be very careful. Once the key has been deleted it's impossible to use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall if you make an incorrect selection.

Just so you know,I HAVE done this without having any problems or having to commit hari kari
