Java J2SE Runtime Environment updates from time to time and it creates uninstalls in my add/remove list. The are listed sequentially - update 4, update 5.... Can I unintall the previous version updates? They are pretty big files. They are listed at over 100MB for each update listed.

Download and save the new version of J2RE.

Uninstall ALL previous versions of J2RE from the Add/Remove Programs list.

Reboot.

Install the new version of J2RE.

(J2RE is one of those programs that installs and keeps multiple versions, if you don't first uninstall the older version. Many people aren't aware of this.)

The most current version is 1.5.0.06(5.0 Update 6).

I currently have 2 updates listed in my Add/remove. I only run the updates when J2SE pops up in my Task bar and tells me there is an update. It just updated a few days ago. Should I uninstall all of J2SE to get rid of all the software from my machine and then reinstall fresh?

Once I install a version of J2SE, so I need to do the updates? every time one comes up?

I keep the automatic update feature of J2RE disabled because it's another program running in the background that doesn't need to be. I prefer to manually search for updates anyway.

Whether you download and install the full package or whether you use the automatic update feature, it'll do the same thing and leave you with multiple versions in Add/Remove Programs.

Go ahead and uninstall all versions of J2RE, reboot, then install J2RE 1.5.0.06. You can download it from here.
