I've got some unknown firewall running on my machine preventing programs from connecting to my network. I can see other computers and use filesharing, but I can't use the programs with them.
I have Zone Alarm Pro and Norton Antivirus running, but the problem started before them. My windows firewall is off also, but my system still thinks there is a firewall, and I haven't been able to see it.
Example: ITunes - connecting to someone else
Error: The shared music library"****" is not accessible for an unknown reason. (-3264)
Check that any firewall software running on either computer has been set to allow communication on port **** (the port is different for each library)

This problem affects several other programs, and has become a hastle to work around, any suggestions for fixing it?

Based on all the Symantic Corporation processes running my guess is that your "unknown firewall" is part of the Norton Security System.

go to start > run > services.msc, scroll down to windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) and see what it's set at. If it's set at auto, disable it, and stop the service, reboot, and try again.

    let us know what happens.

OK, I did that, and it didn't solve my problem. Even when that had been done, and restarted staying off, it still didn't work. Thanks for helping.

It isn't zone alarm, I had the problem before I put zone alarm on. I had been using zone alarm (free) and then reciently got pro, with, without, and with pro didn't change anything, I still had and have the same problem.

Haha you want to remove norton/symantic completely. Good luck on that, because not even i have managed to do that completely (becuase i kepy finding files relating to it).

For Garfuncle, you must get your facts a little bit straighter..
    .
Or at least his facts are straight, but keep it pointed out that Zone Alarm does not look responsible. (so much editing, im confusing myself)

    Run ShieldsUP!
    http://grc.com/zonealarm.htm

It will show you all the ports that are closed or better yet Stealth.

Just how you protect your self and open the needed ports someone else will have to help you on it.

when I ran those scans every port was stealthed, and the scans were saying that my computer is very well protected. I figure, I did some protection on it, my problem stillremains, however, that something like a firewall is running without my expressed permission and causing trouble. Thanks for the help.

If it helps anyone one else in this forum, maybe you could show what procceses are running (task-manager/processes). When my sister installed a program that said (but lied) that it could tell them if anyone had blocked them on MSN (and gave a disallowed message every time she open up a message to a person), I noticed that to remove the program you had to stop the process, and then uninstall it (according to an online help site (it was that common:eek: )).

In post #4 you said, "I removed everything related to symantec or norton, and I still have the problem."

In post #13 your list of running processes includes,
    "1944 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe 104.0.4.3 Symantec Corporation
    192 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe 104.0.4.3 Symantec Corporation
    416 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe 6.0.0.99 Symantec Corporation
    516 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe 2.0.0.73 Symantec Corporation
    552 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe 1.9.1.762 Symantec Corporation

    468 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe 104.0.4.3 Symantec Corporation

    2728 C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe 12.1.0.20 Symantec Corporation
    2740 C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe 12.1.0.20 Symantec Corporation

    4060 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Console\NSCSRVCE.EXE 2006.1.3.2 Symantec Corporation"

Somehow I am confused by the apparent contradictions between these two posts. :-(

In my state of confusion, I still stand by my post #2.

I had uninstalled it, and then I just put it back on because it didn't help my problem at all.
