A while ago, my laptop (Dell Vostro 1310) encountered a blue screen "Unmountable Boot Volume" error.
Due to it being a second hand laptop, I do not own a Windows XP disc to fix it.
I have a new laptop now, so I'm not really too fussed about it, but I wouldn't mind getting my old stuff back from my old notebook.

Is there any way I can fix this without an XP disc?

I read somewhere that you can take the hard drive out and use it as an external hard drive for my new computer. Is this advisable? I'm not sure if "Unmountable Boot Volume" is a problem that concerns the hard drive.
