So today i restart my computer and i realize it's taking a longer time to boot and then a couple seconds later i get a blue screen saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. It wont boot even if i go on safe mode. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Rseries 61.
Boot the machine and hit the F8 key until you're given the options list. You want to choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Once this loads, you're going to have to run a command that can take quite some time to complete, so don't be afraid to leave it running. Type in chkdsk /f /r and then hit the Enter key. This page explains what the switches do. I've used this successfully on a number of occasions to resurrect drives.
Sorry for late response i recently just got back from school. When i go to Safe Mode with command prompt it loads up to files then it shows the unmountable boot volume blue screen again.
You will need the Xp install Cd.
Boot from the Xp install Cd...when prompted press [R]
Choose Windows installation [typically by pressing [1]
When prompted for password.
Press Enter.
Then type
chkdsk /r
[note space after chkdsk]
Let it scan the pc.
When fininshed.
Type Exit
And press Enter.
You cannot legally download the ISO files for Xp.
The Recovery Console ISO files were once allowed but no longer available.
Did you try Safe mode with a Command prompt option?
F8 - Safe mode with a Command prompt option.
Select an operating system if asked.
Press Enter.
Log on as an administrator.
At the command prompt.
Type
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Press Enter.
You should now be in System Restore.
Choose a date prior to the problem.

Did you try Last Known Good Configuration?
So I have encountered a new problem, so i used something called (removed by Administrator) which gives you something close to the recovery console but when I go into cmd and put in my hard drive letter it says "The request could not be performed because an I/O device error"
I've edited two of your posts as we don't support that particular boot CD due to copyright issues. As a result, although you fixed it, I've had to remove the link to that as well and we won't allow the solution to be posted.
Since there's nothing else that need be done here I'm closing this thread.
