Our dell computer is giving us a blue screen with the unmountable_boot_volume message. We've chatted with dell and got no where. They felt the hard drive was ok and we just needed to reinstall windows. They sent us a startup disk but we are unable to get it to work. We had a local computer repair company come look at it and the kid said the hard drive is bad. We have ordered a new hard drive, I was wondering can you install the new hard drive and make the old one a slave (?) and get our data off of it. Or are all the files gone from the original hard drive.

You won't know for sure, until you try it. It won't cost you anything to try.
