I have recently changed from MS edge to google chrome. MS edge still seems to be running. Is there any way of getting rid of it permanently? I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this. If not please change.

Hello.

You have Windows 10, so Microsoft Edge is built-in the operating system. Although there are some "hacks" around which claim that they can remove Edge, I do not recommend it. You always need a second browser and after all you can just don't use it.

John:
Have you gone into Settings - Apps - Default Apps and selected which one you want as your default browser?
If Microsoft Edge is listed as the default browser, change it to Google Chrome.

Thank you all. It looks as if I will have to put up with it in the background.

It is important to have a second browser running for various tasks. You can unpin Edge from the taskbar and the right side of the Start menu if you do not want to have Edge icons visible in Windows 10. However, keep it untouched in the list of apps in the Start menu.
