Ok, this has been going on actually for a few weeks now and I'm kinda at my wit's end. With my Vista, I keep getting urged by Windows Update to install Windows malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830). I install it and it says that it was a success. I do the recommended restart and then about 20 minutes later, the update is back!!!

Can anyone help me out on this? It's really getting annoying.

    Thanks!

I can think of 1 thing that might work. You can fool Windows by renaming the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. This folder is a history of all your updates. Windows will create a new one the next time it installs an update. You won't be able to view history of updates anymore unless you rename it back at some point.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it didn't work. The update is still there...mocking me... *glares at the update, silently cursing Vista*

Try uninstalling the updates back to before the problem began. They will then become available again. If not to many, I would even go back to the beginning. I reinstalled Vista today and had 26 waiting for me. It only took about 15 minutes on a high speed connection.

Right click on the update and choose the option to not show the update again. If you know it's installed then that shouldn't be a problem.
