    Hi,

My boyfriend got a new motherboard and is trying to install it. Everything looks good, and it all starts up.

But when we tried to boot, it won't get further than the first black screen and says and "verifying DMI pool data K8NPT data change" "update new data to DMI" and under that "A disk read error occurred" and then we have to restart.

What does that mean? What do we have to do to make this work???

As you can tell, this is the first time we have done anything like this. Needed to upgrade his PC and it was cheaper than buying a new one.

Okay. You have upgraded the PC. Which parts did you replace?
Whatever they were, it's highly propable you need to reinstall Windows.

Sounds like the bios can't recognize the drive. Could be many reasons for that. First remove and reconnect the connections to the drive and motherboard, both data and power (Really should double check every connection you made to the motherboard while you are there). I found decent explanations of the error and possible causes/solutions here and here. Hope that helps.
