Hello, cannot get my updates to work. I get an error stating that "your device is missing important security and quality fixes." "One of the update services is not running properly." I tried running the troubleshooter, but it found nothing wrong. Next I went into the Update Orchestrator Service and made sure it was set to automatic. Other than that I do not know what needs to be done. Thanks for any help I can get.
Okay, good.
I'm glad to see you're not using a third-party one.
Your Acer laptop currently has build 19042.630 of Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
The most current build is 19042.844, so your Acer laptop is only about a month out of date.
The next monthly updates will be released on March 9th.
Advise us if it also fails to install.
Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/powershell with admin & enter:
Net Stop bits
Net Stop wuauserv
Net Stop appidsvc
Net Stop cryptsvc
Ren %systemroot%SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
Ren %systemroot%system32catroot2 catroot2.bak
Net Start bits
Net Start wuauserv
Net Start appidsvc
Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.
And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.
In addition to Virginia's & James' sterling advice, I would recommend deleting the SoftwareDistribution.bak folder. I've seen these grow to over 1GB in size, and it would be a waste of disk space to leave that folder orphaned.
Yes I did reset the Update Orchestrator to automatic and I started getting updates yesterday. So that was the problem with not getting updates at all. But now there is one update, which I will attach, that does not seem to want to update like the others. Thanks.
The March 2021 KB5000802 cumulative update for Version 20H2 Build 19042 was released yesterday.
But don't be in any hurry to install it because it's causing printer issues with some people.
