I have just bought a new computer with W8.

I am having a problem with Windows Updates.

Nearly everyday either on Shut Down or when starting the computer I get the following message:
Installing Windows Updates -- it goes up to 15% then I get another message

    Failure to configure Windows Updates
    Preparing to retry

It starts again but again goes up to 15% then yet another message
    Reverting Changes

    Eventually the computer then restarts.

I have gone to search and typed Windows Updates then clicked on settings and looked in View Updates History.

There must be about 40 files there that are listed as Failed.
    All are security updates.

Can anyone please help? - What is causing this problem and how to resolve it.

    All help much appreciated

I think I am correct in saying that this
is now coming up to nearly three months old.
Do you mean that Windows updates have NEVER worked properly on this NEARLY new computer and when did you FIRST become aware of this problem please

and WHAT is the date of the earliest failed update

the reasoning behind the questions is - if it has occurred since you bought it and BEFORE you installed any other software then you should if it was bought with Windows 8 installed, refer back to the supplier, clearly something they installed is the problem - at least on the evidence available

If however it has occurred ONLY since your installation of other software, especially an anti-virus/firewall that is most certainly your first line of approach

When you have a failed update - it is recorded as failed as you know. Double click on the failure - what please is the error code. Select the first few and the last few and are the codes different.
If so please post the codes against the update
If there are of course the same simply post any one.

It seems that the following update that is causing the trouble.

    KB 2756872 -- Error Code 80071A90

I believe it conflicts with my Norton Gold 360 Security Suite.
Anyone please tell me what this code is and how to hide it?

I agree and that would have been my suggestion, HOWEVER my second favourite suspect is NORTON
as an AV it is possibly quite good
as a problem cause it is outstanding

At least that is my opinion

and the questions I asked in my post 2 - about when and what has been installed etc, may well have provided a further insight to the cause - or rather I should say the answers, may have done.
