I bought a Yamaha CDRW and my system won't recognize it. It was suggested that I upgrade my BIOS to fix this problem. I have an Asus P2B Motherboard and when I downloaded the update, all I got was a Fax Viewer Document, not what I expected. Do I really need to update the BIOS? I am using Win 98 SE.

I have checked all the IDE cables and all configurations.......do I have a paperweight?
    Any help would be great!

Depends on how old your bios are. If it's the last chance

Anyway here is link to your motherboard page
    http://www.asus.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Pentiumpro/P2b/index.html

You can just click on the link for the bios and get the upgrade, whichever you want, with or without hardware monitoring.

Have you tried the burner in another machine just ot see if the burner is good.
    Differnet cable
    Different power connector
Different master slave settings on ide's
