Hi! I have Hitman: Absolution and Microsoft Office 2010, that both need Windows 7. Luckily, I have an official Windows 7 install disc for both 32 and 64. Now, backing up all my qaqa on 4.7 GB dvd discs would be a hassle, and that would be what I'm looking at because there is only one hard drive. My question: What are the downsides to just installing Windows 7 64 bit over Windows XP 64 bit, rather than backup files -> reformat -> clean install?

You could buy a USB hard drive, and copy stuff over to it. They are not that expensive now.

The downside to performing a upgrade install is that apps wont work afterwards because the migration didnt copy over important files or registry keys.

Can a usb 2.0 port use a usb 3.0 hard drive? I can only hope. Those are the larger ones at Amazon.

Oh, I can just reinstall those. Not that many just games, Photoshop, Illustrator, Avast!, and Steam, but the all my setup will be similar including the wifi network.
