My dad wants a cheap UPS system to keep his PC and monitor live with enough time to shut it down properly, he lives in area that has lots of power cuts and has just built a £700 PC so needs to make sure its not going to be damaged, its on Surge protector but he feels that the electricity flicking on and off qiute fast (as it does) can damage the PC

can anyone recommend a good one in UK?

also, whats the score with power consumption? he has a 500watt PSU in the PC , 240v outlet in UK

Ive also read of something called "switch speed" where some PSU's have a slow switch speed (switching from mains to battery) and PC's crash before it can get onto the battery - what is score with this? do we need to find out if the UPS were considering has a good enough switch speed to keep a PC live?

    thanks
