A friend's computer, with avast always running, and ad-aware run each night, has begun to get funky.
Internet explorer will randomly try to bring up pages, even when neither firefox or iexplorer are running. Avast keeps popping up with viruses, malware, worms and adware, adaware keeps finding far too many critical items. aVast will especially register new viruses, worms, etc when any action to do with windows explorer (my computer, start menu, recycle bin) is attempted.

The registry has been checked;
the computer has been boot-time scanned by avast- fixing 28 problems-
it has been scanned in safe mode- found nothing, by either avast or adaware-- immediately after boot time scan
system restore insists it is unable to restore no matter how far back or how recent the date of the restore point...
I have used msconfig to edit down the startup processes etc etc etc.

Find below my Hijack this log

Started immediately after firefox began popping up with ads for a registry cleaner, that if you clicked on, duh!, took you to their site, but if you closed down with task manager, took all of firefox with them.

Huh?
Please, kind brilliant lords of computer wisdom, help me help her!
