I've had a Canon MP 530 printer connected via USB to my XP-SP3 system for some time and operating perfectly.

I recently added an external USB hard drive, which also works fine.

However, when printing with both devices plugged in together, the print job starts, prints part of the document, then returns a "printer not responding" message.

Unplug the USB drive and printer works fine again.

Any suggestions as to how to make these two devices live together?

TIA

I do not know how to fix your problem how you want..
But... a computer at my dad work had this problem, I slapped a IEEE1394 card in there, used the printer on usb and the external hdd on firewire and all is well.
I would also like to know if there is a usb only solution.
