Recently I have not been able to access my flash drive from the USB ports. Whn I check the device manager I can see the drive but it is listed as unknown device. What would be a good fix? I am using XP.

Are your other USB devices functioning properly when you plug them in?

All other USB devices work well. I have tried a card reader, PDA sync, and a GPS. All of these work well, they all carry their own drivers or/and they have the corresponding programs already in the computer.

What is the make and model of the drive that you are having trouble with?

Can you try to reformat the drive and see if that helps? It's possible that it's not formatted possibly. Are your Windows updates/critical patches current?

If you are using Vista try these steps

    OPen device manager
Right click on the unknown device and select update driver
Then select "Browse my computer for driver software"
the "Let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer"
After this it should show you the USB in the list
simply double click on it and install and select finish and Reboot your system

Best of luck and i hope this will help you as these steps worked for me
