Are USB mice really faster and/or more responsive, if even on a miniscule level? Will a USB mouse retain it's speed if it is running through a converter to a PS/2 port?

can't really answer your question except to ask why you would need a faster mouse?
mine has always worked instantly

For gaming a USB mose is preferred because the sample rate is 3 times that of a PS/2 style mouse. Running through a converter will run the signals through the serial controller not the USB controller so it will be slower.

..that depends on the game! :D
I play Half Life an awful lot online and have found the usb mouse far better than my ps2. The fact that it's optical instead of ball has a great dela to do with it though.
But what I was going to say is that you can't really play half-life with anything but a mouse (and keyboard).
