Using xp sp1. Device manager says the ports are enabled and working but they definately aren't.
They were working last week. Removed some viruses from my system today. Could that be the problem?
These ports are hardwired to the motherboard however when we attached an external usb device it wasn't recognized either.
    I totally confused, please help.
If you need more info let me know. I've been working at this for hours now and my head hurts.
    Thanks

Have you restarted the computer since removing the viruses? Sometimes a reboot works wonders.

You could try the Update Driver facility in Device Manager or, if you still have your motherboard CD, run that and reinstall the drivers from there. When you uinplug a USB device, do you get any sounds - bit like a DeDONK?
