I recently purchased a Canon LiDE100 scanner and installed as directed on PC running Windows Vista. Problem is that intermittently when I seek to use any application involving the scanner, I get an error message indicating it is not available.

In WIA Scanners and Cameras; Properties: "Not available"
Test Scanner button: "The test failed because the device is not available. Verify the connection and try again."

However, in Device Manager: "The device is working properly".

The problem is always cured by simply unplugging the cable from the USB port, waiting a few seconds, and replugging it.

I have read some similar requests for assistance here, but they tend to relate to old equipment, and the advice to get a new scanner, upgrade drivers, etc does not apply to me. I have tried Canon's online help, but they have not been able to solve the problem.

    Howdy,

Do you any other USB devices attached to the PC and if so do you have any problems with them?

Some Virus protection programs have to be disabled when installed the drivers for the scanner
