    I noticed that a file has appeared in "my documents" called USB002.

    I wondered what it was? Is it something that I should be worried about? Is it OK to delete it?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    What kind of file type is it? Text, application, etc ...

    Right click on it and select Properties > Version.

    Is there a copyright?

    That's the odd thing, when I right click it, the type just says "file".

    If I double click it, windows brings up a list of all my programs, so doesn't appear to recognise it either? It is 49kb in size

    I have attached the properties thing so you can see!

    ... and this is how it appears in "my documents". It is the item last on the list.

    I was worried that it might be some sort of spyware?

    It may be related to a device installation -- but let me see what's in it. Zip it up and upload it here as an attachment.

    You've also got something there called "HUB dumping area" which could be related to a USB hub.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response.

    Ignore "Hub dumping area", that is a folder I created for dumping old Word docs :)

    Well there is almost nothing in it but hex code and these "strings":

    @EJL 1284.4
    @EJL
    REMOTE1PM
    !!IR
    @8x(
    REMOTE1IR

    I'm wondering if the "IR" in here refers to an infrared device of some kind? Is this a media center pc with a remote? Perhaps you have scheduled a program to watch and this is the file created for it.

    Once again, thanks for looking at this for me.

    I do use logmein.com which allows me to remotely control my PC - could it be something to do with this?

    The file hasn't appeared on the other pc's though?

    I do use a media server, but not in this PC (it is on a networked PC).

    Do you think it is spyware - should I be worried about it?

    It could be a virtual port for something like for printing. I would make a backup of the file and then delete it, then rteboot the computer and see if it stays deleted and also if everything works.

    Actually you can just rename it. If it's needed for anything, that thing will complain or not work as expected.

    It's unlikely that it's spyware

    I don't know about logmein other than it creates a hidden user account. I would have expected this to show up before if you have been using it for some time.
